First Sales trip to St Maarten

First trip I ever made to the beautiful island of St Maarten.  I arrived on a Tuesday morning on a DC-6B with a full flight for the Food Center in SXM, I went through a portable trailer where there were no immigration officer to stamp my passport, and a sign saying, if the pax planned on staying in SXM more than a month, to report to the police station in Phillipsburg SXM to stamp the passport. Kate picked me up from the airport and we did sales for the rest of the week. Clients we met could not have been more welcoming, especially with Kate as I was the new kid on the block. It was there in SXM where I learned several things from Kate and will for ever be grateful for what she taught me by her example.  ALWAYS tell the truth to our clients, some times the truth hurts, but they'll appreciate you telling them what the problems are when things don't go the way they expected. Remain calm under fire, that has helped me grow in what I have done since the mid 70's. Be yourself, and be personal, break the ice when things are not going well, and always, let the client vent before you speak.    She actually did this with every meeting we had, and at the end what she accomplished is the respect, and support of the importers in St Maarten. Looking forward to hearing something from Paul Butler.
